Recording Tips

Reduce your costs

Improving transcript quality will reduce costs ...

Buy a dictaphone

RemoteWP recommends using a headset or investing in a digital dictaphone which will save you money later as they produce a better quality recording.

Speech
Remember to speak clearly and concisely.  Just like you are having a normal conversation.  You don't need to speak slower but you shouldn't speak too fast either.

Echo

To reduce echo, record in a carpeted area.

Avoid noise

Reduce background noise by recording in a quiet area (eg with no audible air-conditioning/heating, common area).

One person at a time
Where possible one interviewer should interview one person at a time, and not over the telephone.

Record close
Keep the recorder close to the interviewee or better still, provide each interviewee with a separate microphone.

Separate microphones
If you have to record outside provide each interviewee with a separate microphone.

If filming provide each interviewee with a separate microphone.
